How are you doing these days? A class meeting under the theme of Chinese cultures will be held by our school, and I'm writing to ask for your suggestions on the topic.
Since the content of this class meeting is to be posted on an English website that has numerous foreign visitors, I couldn't decide which aspects of our culture are more popular among foreigner readers. Currently, we have been considering a wide range of choices which include local cuisine, ancient costumes, festival traditions and folk music, but we haven't reach any agreement yet. From your perspective, which topic interests you the most? Do you have any suggestions or can you just put forward another alternative if possible.
I would highly appreciate it if you could generously share with me your opinion. Hope to hear from you soon.
How's everything going? I am Li Hua, a Chinese friend of yours. Our school is going to launch a class meeting themed “Chinese Traditional Culture”, which will be shown on an English website. Now I am writing to obtain your detailed advice about it.
As is known to all, China has abundant and unique traditional cultures with a rich history, such as tea culture, Peking opera, cheongsam, the Chinese calligraphy, the Chinese knot and so on. What's more, there are many historical places of interest, like the Great Wall of China, the famous West Lake, etc. Would you be so kind to tell me which attracts you most so that our meeting can gain great success?
Thanks again for your time, and I'm looking forward to your earliest reply.
Word came that our school is going to hold a class meeting whose topic is related to Chinese traditional customs. Because this activity will be presented on the English website, I sincerely want you to offer me some advice.
As far as we know, there is a huge cultural difference between China and the western countries. In order to get more clicks, you'd better tell me which Chinese culture you westerners prefer. What's more, if I want to decorate my website with some Chinese elements, what should I do? Knowing you are interested in China, I do believe you can help me solve these puzzles.
If possible, you can reply to me as soon as possible. I will take your advice into consideration. I really appreciate your help.
How are you doing these days? I hope life is treating you well.
I'm writing to ask for your advice. My school is to hold theme-based class meetings to promote Chinese traditional culture and plan to post some class meetings on English websites. The themes we can choose include calligraphy, martial arts, shadow puppet plays, paper-cut and so on. Can you please let me know which of them you like best and which of them people from outside of China in general might be interested in?
Thank you for your help. Looking forward to hearing from you.
How are things going these days? I am writing to ask you for help. My school is planning to hold class meetings about Chinese traditional culture and will post some of the meetings on an English website. Can you let me know which of the following options you and people around you would enjoy most? One is classical poetry of the Tang and Song dynasties. Also on the list is calligraphy, an important symbol of traditional culture. Other options under consideration include festivals and architecture, both of which can well represent Chinese culture.
Thank you for your time. Looking forward to your early reply.

Be smart online learners
It's a great honor for me to deliver a speech titled Be Smart Online Learners.
With the rapid development of science and technology, online learning is becoming more and more popular. At present, online learning is a common way of learning. I have been learning online for a long period.
Online learning is playing a very important role in education. Online courses indeed have brought me a lot of surprises and benefits. Online learning can provide flexible learning opportunities. Therefore, we don't have to worry about missing some important points.
However, everything has its two sides. While learning online, it's difficult for me to interact with the teachers, which means some problems can't be solved in time. Some students might spend a lot of time playing computer games.
As far as I am concerned, we should be strict with ourselves while learning online. Try our best to be smart online learners and take advantage of the convenience of online learning.
Thank you for your listening.

It's widely acknowledged that Online learning is becoming increasingly popular with Chinese due to its convenience as well as flexibility. Not only does it allow us to learn wherever and whenever it works for us , but also provides us with a variety of learning materials tailored to us.
However, online learning also presents us learners with challenges in terms of self-discipline and time management, because we can be easily distracted when studying at home. That's why we should develop a positive attitude towards online learning. First of all, we'd better obey our school timetable at home, which will surely contribute to our learning productivity. Besides, it's wise to follow the teachers closely in online class so that we can become more involved, focused and motivated.
Follow these tips, and we will become smart online learners. That's all! Thank you.

YOUTH and me
For the 10th Anniversary of YOUTH / On occasion of the 10th Anniversary of YOUTH, I want to share my reading experience.
Youth has accompanied me for three years during my high school. It involves all topics that senior students are interested in and leads us to feel the wonderful outside.
As a loyal reader of YOUTH, I am always absorbed in columns on teenagers from which I can get inspiring stories and gain much pleasure from exciting news.
I sincerely hope that YOUTH can make greater progress and attract more readers to share their stories.
YOUTH and me
YOUTH, the most popular school English paper among us students, is celebrating its 10 anniversary.
Looking back on those impressive days with YOUTH, I am full of thankfulness to it. It was the first semester when I was trapped in learning and feeling greatly depressed that I was introduced to YOUTH. The moment I dived deeper into YOUTH, I was deeply attracted by one of its columns, the window to the World, through which I harvested a lot. Whenever I was down, I would turn to YOUTH: whenever I had any question in English. I would refer to YOUTH. The insightful and profound articles and abundant materials concerning English learning cast light on all my embarrassments, raising me up. Thanks to YOUTH, I became so confident that I picked up my courage to face my dilemma and strove hard for improvement. Thanks to YOUTH, not only were my horizons widely broadened and campus greatly enriched, but my English was gradually improved, hence contributing to my overall promotion of my study. Thanks to YOUTH, I became what I am today, living up to my parents and teachers' expectations.
Here I would like to convey sincere gratitude and my best wishes to YOUTH. May YOUTH the brightest future and prosperity.
YOUTH and me
To begin with, I'd like to offer my warmest congratulations on the 10th anniversary of Youth! I've been a big fan of Youth since the day my teacher recommended it to me. Shy and negative, I was unconfident to join any activity during that time and it was Youth that encouraged me to go through the hard time. Even now reading my favorite column—the Success Stories of Youth, still gives me a strong power to strengthen my heart.
Hopefully Youth will record more stories of positive energy and inspire more students in the next 10 years!
My name is Li Hua, a senior 3 student. I am writing to express/ offer my sincerest congratulations on the 10th anniversary ceremony of YOUTH.
Since it was founded, YOUTH has been popular with many students including me, a regular reader of YOUTH. The paper's broad content and rich knowledge have not only widened my horizons but also given me much enjoyment. I am fond of all its columns, but what impressed me most is culture, where I can read humorous stories, poems, fictions and so on to improve my oral English.
Please accept my sincere congratulations again and I best wish that YOUTH could achieve greater success and gain more popularity.
YOUTH and me
In this time when Youth is embracing its tenth birthday, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to it. As a reading enthusiast, I have always been keen on all the articles published in the Youth since it was first set up, which allows me to have access to knowledge of all fields and helps expand my range of vision. Of all the columns, however, what excites me most is the Dialogue where I keep learning quite a lot from people from all walks of life.
Hopefully, Youth will become better, covering more topics concerning us.

A MOTHER'S DAY SURPRISE
The twins were filled with excitement as they thought of the surprise they were planning for Mother's Day. How pleased and proud Mother would be when they brought her breakfast in bed. They planned to make French toast and chicken porridge. They had watched their mother in the kitchen. There was nothing to it. Jenna and Jeff knew exactly what to do.
The big day came at last. The alarm rang at 6 a.m. The pair went down the stairs quietly to the kitchen. They decided to boil the porridge first. They put some rice into a pot of water and left it to boil while they made the French toast. Jeff broke two eggs into a plate and added in some milk. Jenna found the bread and put two slices into the egg mixture. Next, Jeff turned on the second stove burner to heat up the frying pan. Everything was going smoothly until Jeff started frying the bread. The pan was too hot and the bread turned black within seconds. Jenna threw the burnt piece into the sink and put in the other slice of bread. This time, she turned down the fire so it cooked nicely.
Then Jeff noticed steam shooting out of the pot and the lid starting to shake. The next minute, the porridge boiled over and put out the fire. Jenna panicked. Thankfully, Jeff stayed calm and turned off the gas quickly. But the stove was a mess now. Jenna told Jeff to clean it up so they could continue to cook the rest of the porridge. But Jeff’s hand touched the hot burner and he gave a cry of pain. Jenna made him put his hand in cold water. Then she caught the smell of burning. Oh dear! The piece of bread in the pan had turned black as well.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. At the sight of the mess, he knew exactly what they were up to. He rubbed their heads and smiled, “Well, I'm willing to lend a hand." Hearing this, the twins’ faces lit up, with their eyes alive with expectation. Under the help of Dad, they cleaned the kitchen and did the second try. After half an hour, the twins finally made it, the tempting smell of French toast and chicken porridge floating in the air. Everything ready, Dad tiptoed back to upstairs. The pair decorated the plate with some fruits, shaping them into a “heart”, and stepped out of the kitchen.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. Jenna hugged Mom tightly, yelling “Happy Mother's Day, Mummy!” In the meanwhile, Jeff was eager to present the plate to their mom. The moment Mom spotted the breakfast, surprise registered on her face. “You did these? Amazing! Honey, see?” “Indeed,” Dad took over the plate and sniffed. Mom pulled the twins against her breast and kissed them on their heads, “Thank you so much, I like this gift.” Dad hugged Mom by the shoulder, “Our sweeties have become real grown-ups.” “Yes, they're the very gift for amother.” added Mom.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. One look and he knew what they were up to. Walking straight up to them, he spoke highly of their action. But the twins still felt so down. “Hey, kids, don't be sad, I'll assist you.” Eyes glittered (流露着) with excitement, they cleaned up the kitchen immediately. Then their father instructed them how to make French toast and cook porridge. Half of an hour later, the breakfast was done in a perfect way. The twins prepared the breakfast tray (托盘), added a card they had made and walked out of the kitchen. The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. “Happy Mother's Day, dearest Mummy!” The twins yelled. Mother was taken aback, looking at her husband following behind. “This is their holiday surprise for you.” Tears running down her cheeks, she hugged the twins tightly and said, “Thank you, my sweetheart, I'm so proud of you!” Mother bit into a toast and said it was the best she had ever tasted, which delighted the twins so much. The family shared the breakfast together, with their smile lighting up the room.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. One look and he knew what they were up to. Seeing their depressed faces, he told them to clean up the kitchen while he helped them make breakfast for Mother. The twins cheered up and did as told. Within an hour, the kitchen was cleaned, and Father had made some egg sandwiches and cooked some pork porridge instead. Then he sneaked (溜进) back to bed. Meanwhile, the twins prepared the breakfast tray (托盘), added a card they had made and walked out of the kitchen.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. They hugged her and yelled “Happy Mother's Day, darling Mummy!” Mother hugged the twins. Her eyes widened at the sight of the breakfast tray. She shook Father who was pretending to sleep. He acted astonished when he saw the breakfast. Mother bit into a sandwich and said it was the best she had ever tasted. Jeff immediately wanted to have a bite. Jenna caught her father's eye and they winked (眨眼示意) at each other secretly.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. One look and he knew what they were up to. Seeing their crestfallen (沮丧的) faces, he told them to clean up the kitchen while he helped them make breakfast for Mother. The twins cheered up and did as told. Within an hour, the kitchen was cleaned, and Father had made some egg sandwiches and cooked some oat porridge. Then he sneaked (偷偷地走) back to bed. The twins prepared the breakfast tray, adding a card they had made, and then carried the tray upstairs to their parents’ bedroom.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. They hugged her and yelled "Happy Mother’s Day, darling Mummy!" Mother hugged the twins too. Her eyes widened at the sight of the breakfast tray. She shook Father who was pretending to snore (打呼噜). He feigned (假装) astonishment when he saw the breakfast. Mother bit into a sandwich and said it was the best she had ever tasted. Jeff immediately wanted to have a bite. Jenna caught her father’s eye and they winked at each other secretly.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. They were a bit anxious, for they were afraid their father would scold them. Instead, he readily joined them in cooking the porridge and put the slices of toast on the frying pan to roast. While doing so, he taught them the basic skills and told them jokes to cheer them up. Minutes went by and with their father’s assistance, the special breakfast was ready. Jeff held a bowl of porridge while Jenna took the plate of toast.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. “Breakfast for you, Mom! Happy Mother’s Day!” Their mother sat up right away, hugged them and appreciated them for their hardwork. Seeing her so excited, the pair felt over the moon. They admitted that they had got two slices of toast burnt and Dad helped them out. They went downstairs, finding Dad cleaning up the kitchen. Enjoying the breakfast together, the twins said they would learn to do more housework and wished Mom happy every day.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. Spotting the messy situation, their father understood everything. Instead of blaming them for their carelessness, their father put on a bright smile and patted on their heads. “Do you want to give your mother a surprise? Let me help you fix it.” Father said with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. Hearing the words, the twins nodded their heads, their eyes shining with excitement. Under the father’s instruction, they first cleaned up the mess, and then they respectively took responsibility for French toast and chicken porridge. With the experience of failure, they accomplished their task perfectly this time. Looking at the inviting breakfast, they were deprived of all power of speech by excitement.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. The instant she noticed the breakfast was brought in bed, a ripple of excitement flashed through her face. Her eyes wandered between the breakfast and the twins as if she was asking what happened. “Happy Mother’s Day!” the twins exclaimed with one voice. The mother’s face beamed and her shining smile lit up the room. “Thank you my angles! Come here and give me a hug.” The twins rushed into their mother’s arms and just at that moment, their father stopped behind them. “Hey! Look here!” The mother and the twins turned their heads simultaneously. “Click-click.” Using the camera, the father recorded the memorable scene. What a Mother’s Day Surprise!
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. “Don’t panic!” he handed each one a wet towel, helping them clean the mess quickly. After that, Jeff stammered out their plan, his face flushing. However, Father laughed, “Sounds great! I can teach you to cook.” At this, Jenna and Jef almost jumped to their feet, joy in eyes. Under his careful guidance, it didn’t take long before the French toast and chicken porridge were ready. Everything settled, Father left the kitchen, promising to keep their secret.
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. Meeting their smiling eyes, Mother felt confused until they presented the breakfast and said “Happy Mother’s Day”. Mother gave them a tight hug, “Unbelievable! You can cook! It’s the biggest surprise I have received.” Her face lit up with happiness. “They have known how to take care of others.” Father said in response to her excitement, winking at Jenna and Jef. They couldn’t help giggling. It was a secret only shared between them.
As the twins looked around them in disappointment, their father appeared. With tears in her eyes, Jenna ran to her father and explained everything. After confirming the burn on Jeff’s hand was well tended, their father cheered them up, helped them clean it up and prepared the breakfast all over again. It didn’t take him too long to fill a plate with toast and a bowl with porridge. “Let’s hope your mother is still fast asleep” prayed their father, “Bring it up and give her a big surprise.”
The twins carried the breakfast upstairs and woke their mother up. “What’s going …” their mother’s question was interrupted by the sweet scent of the breakfast. She exclaimed with disbelief, “Oh my God, thank you so much my children! This is the best Mother’s Day ever!” Then she slowly enjoyed every bit of the breakfast, with the twins excitedly telling her about their secret plan, their disappointing preparation and their father’s timely help. Their father went back to the bedroom when they just finished their story. “Darling, what do you think of the breakfast?” he asked. “Unique, because it tastes of love and care” she smiled along with the twins.

In order to better experience traditional Chinese culture, the Students' Union of our school organized a meaningful activity to visit an Chinese painting exhibition in the school hall last weekend.
In the activity, the guide enthusiastically explained each piece in detail and introduced to us the Chinese famous painters we admire most, such as Xu Beihong, Qi Baishi and so on.
By participating in the well-organized activities, I've benefited a great deal from them. Not only can I cultivate my patience and imagination, but also I can get easier access to our excellent history and culture, which can enrich your mind.
To be honest, it will be a good chance for you to learn about traditional Chinese culture. I'm also looking forward to your participation!
Yesterday witnessed an extraordinary traditional Chinese paintings show organized by our school, which almost drew every student and teacher's attention.
Arranged in our school library from June 5th to June 10th , the exhibition displays a wide variety of amazing works. What deserves to be mentioned is that some are created by our fellow talented students while some are from eminent masters. Having appreciated this marvelous show , not only do I experience the beauty of traditional Chinese paintings ,but also boost my passion for art.
I have to admit that it is a fabulous opportunity to get close to art. Do not miss it !
An Exhibition Of Chinese Paintings You Can’t Miss
I visited an exhibition of Chinese paintings on the first floor in the school library at noon yesterday. There I appreciated nearly 200 amazing drawings, ranging from the Dunhuang frescoes to Zhang Daqian’s paintings. Among those, some beautiful Tang Frescoes impressed me most, which portray figures vividly by a few lines. During the visit, I kept marveling at the superb skills of those Chinese painters and feeling proud of our traditional culture.
Whether you are a fan of Chinese art or someone who wants to know more about it, come and enjoy this visual feast (from June.7th to 9th)!
There is a Chinese painting exhibition at the school gymnasium this week during school hours and after class, make sure you find time to visit!
I visited yesterday and had a profound experience seeing how our classmates showcased their appreciation for China through art. This display of youthful patriotism made me feel a sense of belonging.
I highly recommend visiting this exhibition. I am sure you will learn a lot about Chinese culture and art. Come one, come all!
On June 10th, 2021, from six to ten post meridiem, Zhejiang Secondary has once again put on a traditional Chinese painting exhibition by the students in the central hall, sharing our wonderful traditions with visitors of various backgrounds. I marvel at the beauty behind the monochromatic colour scheme that is true to the essence of Chinese traditional calligraphy. All pieces with historical references truly capture the various scenic heritages that exist throughout the land. We highly recommend all lovers of Chinese heritage to frequent this exhibition before it ends.
To showcase the talents of our students and to promote Chinese culture, our school is hosting a Chinese painting exhibition this week at the Main Hall.
The artworks range in styles from free-style watercolors to meticulous ink and brush. I visited yesterday and was impressed by the delicacy and masterfulness of those paintings.
If you are interested in traditional Chinese arts, come to see the exhibition anytime from now till this Friday. I guarantee that your visit would be filled with fun and wonder.
An Unforgettable Exhibition
To promote Chinese culture, a students’ Chinese painting exhibition is being held in Central Library from June 1st to June 30th. I went there yesterday, and was suitably impressed. The paintings covered a range of themes including figures, flowers, landscapes and animals. The details were so natural that it felt like the paintings were alive. It had never occurred to me that Chinese paintings could astound me in such a profound way. For anyone who likes Chinese art, this is definitely the perfect place to go. (86 words)
My dad, George, only had an eighth grade education. A quiet man, he didn’t understand my world of school activities. From age 14, he worked. And his dad, Albert, took the money my dad earned and used it to pay family expenses.
I didn’t really understand his world either: He was a livestock trucker, and I thought that I would surpass (超过) anything he had accomplished by the time I walked across the stage at high school graduation.
Summers in the mid-70s were spent at home shooting baskets, hitting a baseball, or throwing a football, preparing for my future as a quarterback on a football team. In poor weather, I read about sports or practiced my trombone (长号).
The summer before my eighth grade I was one of a group of boys that a neighboring farmer hired to work in his field. He explained our basic task, the tractor fired up and we were off, riding down the field looking for weeds to spray with chemicals. After a short way, the farmer stopped and pointed at a weed that we missed. Then we began again. This happened over and over, but we soon learned how to identify different grasses like cockleburs, lamb’s-quarters, foxtails and the king of weeds, the pretty purple thistle. It was tiring work, but I looked forward the pay, even though I wasn’t sure how much it would amount to.
At home, my dad said, “A job’s a big step to growing up. I’m glad you will be contributing to the household.” My dad’s words made me realize that my earnings might not be mine to do with as I wished.
My labors lasted about two weeks, and the farmer said there might be more work, but I wasn’t interested. I decided it was not fair that I had to contribute my money.

Paragraph 1: When I brought my paycheck home--it was $119--my dad wanted to talk to me.
Paragraph 2: I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished.
When I brought my paycheck home--it was $119--my dad wanted to talk to me. Knowing that he would talk about my earnings, I pulled a long face and intended to simply walk past him and slip back to my bedroom. “Come here, son.” Dad exclaimed, wearing an accessible expression. My heart sank. What I had been looking forward to—a dreamy new football outfit would finally give way to family expenses. Reluctantly, I inched forward and submitted the paycheck. However, Dad slid the paycheck back into my hand, saying in a tender voice, “You’ve grown up. You have every right to decide what to do with the money.”
I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished. My previous desperation was immediately erased by great bliss. I stepped closer and hugged him tightly. Just at that moment I noticed his grey hair and stiff neck. Memories of his usual cry of pain on the neck came crowding in. I realized how much he had contributed to the family through his tiring work of being a trucker. Tears began to blur my vision, “Dad, thanks for your hard work these years. I shouldn’t have been so selfish and not willing to contribute my money.” On that day, I began to understand Dad’s world and it seemed that he was also on the way into my world.
The pay day arrived at last. Holding the money I earned through two-week’s hard work, I couldn’t contain my joy and kept pondering over the question: how should I spend such a large sum of money? Well, a new football outfit would get me one step closer to my dream of being a quarterback. Suddenly, Dad’s words echoed in my mind, “I’m glad you will be contributing to the family.” “But it’s unfair!” another voice reasoned. Torn between the two voices, I finally decided to go half and half. As I neared home, I heard Mom’s voice, “We need to buy one. But …” “But we are currently short of money.” Dad’s voice emerged, full of anxiety.
I understood immediately what my parents were worrying about. They were talking about the truck engine. It needed to be changed because its frequent failure to work halfway almost drove Dad mad. Hesitated for several minutes, I walked towards them and handed over all the money. “Dad, this is what I earned. Here you are!” Seeing what I was doing, Dad froze there for a moment but soon he gathered me into his arms, “You’ve really grown up.” Meanwhile, I saw tears welling up in Mom’s eyes. It was on that day that I realized what Dad had accomplished at my age was much greater than I did.
The pay day arrived at last. 17 dollars! That was a huge fortune for a high school lad of my age. Debating whether I should substitute my time-worn football with a brand-new one or subscribe to the latest edition of the Sport World, I overheard my parents’ talk in the kitchen. “Lizzy, we are 15 dollars short for a replacement of my truck engine.” My dad murmured. “I know, but our budget is really tight and the bill this month is edging close.” grumbled mom.
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. True, his truck engine kept breaking down, which caused his boss’ constant grievances. But my dilapidated football also needed replacing badly. My mental tug of war kept going on when I suddenly realized there could be a win-win solution: I would continue working for the farmer to earn enough for my ball while contributing the 17 dollars to my father’s engine. As I handed my parents the stack of cash, I realized the meaning of growing up is not working to your own benefit, but feeding the family with your own hands.
When I brought my paycheck home — it was $119 — my dad wanted to talk to me. He smiled and asked about my work. I said it was okay, but I realized where this conversation was heading. Before long, he would be forcing me to contribute to the family, as he had done. Grievance welled up inside me as I thought about having done all that tiring labor without earning anything. Reluctantly, I took out the paycheck and laid it on the table. My dad looked confused. “No, no, I want you to keep the money,” he said.
I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished. My mind was racing like a spinning wheel. With this money, I could buy a new basketball, or a new baseball bat, perhaps a mouthpiece as well. I looked at my dad with gratitude, and he smiled awkwardly. “Use it wisely, son. Unlike me, you have a future to plan for.” I recalled my ambition of surpassing him and flushed with shame. When life hadn’t been fair for dad, he had tried his best to make it fair for me.
When I brought my paycheck home — it was $119 — my dad wanted to talk to me. I pretended not to see his hesitation and walked straight to my room. Lying with my head on the pillow, I experienced an intense internal debate about whether or not to give my pay to my dad. As he said, I had grown up. Even so, I desperately wanted to keep it for myself. This kind of confusion followed me until dinner time. When I came out of my room, I looked at my dad, nervously rubbing my hands. He just smiled, as always, and congratulated me on getting my first salary, encouraging me to buy something I wanted.
I was surprised that my dad allowed me to use the money as I wished. Excited and overjoyed, I rushed to my room and began to look my paycheck up and down. Subsequently, I remembered that my dad had worked from the age of 14. My smile faded away as the thought of my dad’s rough hands alternated with his smile. I felt ashamed and uneasy and realized how selfish I was. I opened the door and put the money on the table under my dad’s surprised and proud eyes. For a grown man, supporting his family is an essential step.
The pay arrived at last. 90 dollars. A big sum of money as it was, I wasn’t excited about it at all. On the contrary, my anger grew as I thought of being unable to get my dreamed Manchester Tank Top. I was breathing fire and fury. Arriving home, I threw all the money at my dad and shouted at him, “Now it’s yours!” Surprisingly, my dad didn’t take the money. Calming me down, he apologized for having wanted me to contribute my earnings, “That’s not fair for you. You deserve the freedom to use your own salary. Your mum and I will take care of your future.”
I understood immediately what my parents were worried about. University fees for a sports major would be far more than what my parents could afford, but they never complained about how hard they had to work to fulfill my dream. That’s not fair for them either. Shame conquered me as my chin started to tremble. How selfish I was! I suddenly realized the meaning of growing up. A grown-up was willing to sacrifice for his loved ones. Despite the poor education my dad received, he knew the way to love others. Touched vastly, I insisted that my dad keep the money for household, and I go on the farmwork to earn more.

How is everything going? We have planned to go for a walk in Haidian Park this weekend, where we could enjoy the beautiful scenery of early spring. But I am afraid I couldn't make it.
I was severely injured in a soccer game last night. The doctor examined me carefully and told me that I had to stay in bed for at least one week. I asked him whether there was any possibility that I could recover faster, yet the answer was negative. My condition doesn't allow me to go anywhere until my legs are fully recovered.
It is a pity for me to miss this trip that I have been longing for. Shall we put it off until next weekend if the weather permits?
Looking forward to your reply.

I hope this email finds you in good health and spirit.
I am writing to inform you that I won't be able to attend your concert this weekend. The school released our examination schedule an hour back, and I have a maths test on Monday. You are aware of how deplorable I am at maths.
I am sorry for canceling at such short notice. I want to make it up to you. We can try the new Thai place near your office next weekend. If you are available, I will book a table for us.

I hope you're well and your arthritis is not as bad as it was the last time we met at the old age home.
Your 78th birthday is around the corner and I remember that I promised taking you fishing this weekend. However, the stars are not in our favor.
My step brother happens to have a piano class this weekend and my step mother needs the car to drive him there. I told them they could take a taxi but they won't have it any other way – Dad's out of town.
Naturally, I won't be able to pick you up for our little adventure by the lake. I could take a taxi but it will be very difficult with all the fishing equipment, especially your wheel chair.
I'm so sorry. How about we make it next Sunday? And before I forget, Happy Birthday!

I'd like to thank you for your kind offer to take me to dinner on Saturday. It was a thoughtful gesture to suggest practicing my English with a native speaker before next week's exams, and I'm sure Russian cuisine is delicious.
Unfortunately, my boyfriend sees things rather differently. He hit the roof when he discovered our plans! I explained to him that you were just trying to help, but he really can be quite jealous sometimes.
I appreciate your sincerity and generosity, but sadly I feel it's best to cancel. Perhaps we can eat together in the future.

I know we agreed to meet this weekend, but I'll have to take a rain check.
I only said “yes” at first because I didn't know how to say “no.” In all honesty, I would rather be indoors, by myself, alone with my thoughts.
I didn't know how to communicate this with you earlier without coming across as a jerk, but now I realize that my acquiescence only reinforces social rejection of the (legitimate) need for solitude. Peer pressure forces us to feel guilty when declining an invitation without an excuse deemed valid by others – and sadly, for many, “not feeling it” just doesn't cut it. I could have pretended that “something came up” but lying to you doesn't feel good since you're my friend.
I hope you can understand my decision. I could use some time and will reach out when I'm ready for the world.
I'm writing this letter to make an apology to you for not keeping the time I have promised to go out with you this weekend.
I will be very grateful if you are kind to listen to my explanation. When I got up, I felt a little sick. Later I found myself catch a cold. So I had to stay at home without going anywhere. I know the appointment with you is very important, and my mother always teaches me to be punctual with everybody. However, I am too uncomfortable to keep an appointment. Please forgive me.
Anyhow, I sincerely hope that we can fix another time for a trip to Beijing, when I will show you around some well-known places of historical interest there.
Thank you again for your understanding.
I am writing to extend an earnest apology to you that I will be unable to hang out with you this weekend as planned.
Honestly, I wish we could both enjoy the weekend together, but much to my regret, I will not be available because I was informed just now that I would have to participate a debate competition on behave of my school during that time. Considering that we have been longing for the date so long, I strongly recommend that we rearrange the appointment, and you have the final say of the proper time this time.
Sorry again for the inconvenience caused by me, and let's make it another time, looking forward to see you soon.
要求：① 向他推荐一门课程 ② 比较两门课程并说明你推荐这门课程的理由
Glad to hear from you, and I'm delighted to share some my opinions with you. Compared with the Chinese Reading and Writing Course, I would like to recommend the Chinese Listening and Speaking Course.
To begin with,Chinese Listening and Speaking Course is more pragmatic and a relatively simple course for beginners and you won't experience a tough and discouraged time at first, which, on the contrary, can activate your motivation and confidence in Chinese learning. In addition, listening and speaking are both basic skills when it comes to learning a new language which are comparatively practical in our daily communication. What's more, students can only spare 8 weeks to finish this course which is half of the other course's duration, so there is no denying that this is pretty rewarding and considerate for those full-time employees like you. Last but not least, totally taught in Chinese rather than bilingual Chinese and English, it is a golden opportunity for foreigners to experience a completely different language atmosphere through practicing its daily conversation contents and materials.
It is of great joy if my advice could help you and I hope you will have great fun in your Chinese learning.
On hearing that you are faced with a dilemma of selecting a course concerning Chinese study, I'd like to offer my proposal.
Compared with the Chinese Reading and Writing course, I would strongly recommend the Chinese Listening and Speaking course. When it comes to learning a new language, listening and speaking are both basic skills , which are comparatively practical and frequently used in our daily communication. Apart from that, Chinese Listening and Speaking course is relatively simple course for beginners since you won't go through a tough and discouraged period at the very start, which , however, can motivate and cheer you up in the process of learning Chinese. As you can see, it only takes 8 weeks for you to complete this course, which is half of the duration of the others. More importantly, you can thoroughly soak in the Chinese atmosphere by means of practising conversation contents and materials instead of bilingual Chinese and English. I'm fully convinced that you will benefit a lot from the Chinese Reading and Writing course.
It's great joy if my advice could help you and I hope you will have great fun in your Chinese learning.
How are you doing? Knowing from your last letter that you are curious about my vacation schedules and my college major, I am writing to inform you of some relevant details.
To begin with, I'd like to express my gratitude for your congratulating me on my graduation from high school. Secondly, I'm very glad to tell you that I'm planning to pay a visit to Beijing with my parents this summer vacation. There are many historical places of interest, like the Great Wall of China, the Summer Palace and so on. What I need to tell you last is I will select my favorite major, fashion design according to my interest. In order to learn it well, I'll have to spare some time to obtain a general knowledge about it this summer vacation.
Thanks again for your congratulations and care.
Congratulations on your graduation! I'm Nancy, your best friend's mom.
I feel more than delighted that both of you are on a new start to university soon. After years of study and stay in our country here in Britain, I suppose you must have gained a good knowledge of English and good adaptation here, which , in return, you are successfully admitted to university.
As you know, my son is always dreaming of studying in China. So I'm wondering what major you will choose in the university. I would appreciated it if you could tell me your choice and relevant reasons for I want to take it as a reference to help him. As for summer vacation, do you have any idea on how to spend ?
Congratulations again. You are welcomed at anytime to my house and be my guest !
